Our Mission

Darpana (Sanskrit word meaning mirror) was launched in 2025 with the express purpose of supporting individuals (and their loved ones) who are impacted by difficulties discarding possessions. The mindset we strive to promote is best captured by the words of, Chuang-Tzu, who famously wrote, “The perfect man employs his mind as a mirror; it grasps nothing; it refuses nothing; it receives, but does not keep.”

At Darpana Institute, our mission is to provide easily accessible research and public education for the benefit of individuals (and their loved ones) with hoarding tendencies. We aim to foster compassion alongside practical solutions that empower individuals to improve their quality of life and reclaim their space!

Who We Are

We are a dedicated team of researchers, educators, consultants, and mental health professionals passionate about addressing the challenges associated with hoarding behavior. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, we are committed to conducting evidence-based research and developing educational resources that promote awareness and effective strategies for managing hoarding tendencies.

What We Do

Research

We conduct rigorous research to deepen our understanding of hoarding behavior and their impact on individuals and families. Our studies focus on exploring the physical and psychological mechanisms of hoarding behavior, identifying effective interventions, and informing best practices in the field.

Public Education

Through workshops, webinars, shows, social media, and more, we educate the public about hoarding tendencies, their underlying features, and practical approaches for support. We aim to reduce stigma, promote empathy, and equip individuals and families with the tools they need to navigate their unique challenges.

Community Support

We believe in the power of community and provide resources for individuals seeking support. Our website offers a wealth of information, including talk-shows, scientific articles, newsletters, and links to other professional services.
